Our Curriculum Academics at TVCS

The instructional program at TVCS is guided by carefully developed curriculum guides for each subject area. These guides outline course content, instructional goals, pacing, resources, methods, assessment strategies, and biblical integration.

  • Biblical Integration

    Biblical integration is intentionally prioritized across all grade levels and subject areas school-wide. Not only do all students have a Bible class each day of the week, but our teachers are expected to weave a biblical worldview into daily instruction so that faith and learning are not separated, but thoughtfully connected in every classroom. Teachers use these guides to develop weekly lesson plans and document their implementation throughout the year in lesson plan books.

  • Benchmark Assessments

    To ensure strong instructional practices, TVCS administers benchmark assessments three times each year: at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year to all students in grades Kindergarten through 12th Grade. These assessments provide clear data on each student’s level of mastery of state standards taught in the classroom. Teachers use this data to make informed, data-driven decisions about instruction. The results help identify areas of strength and areas needing reinforcement, allowing teachers to adjust pacing, provide targeted intervention, and extend learning where appropriate. This ongoing analysis directly supports differentiated instruction at every level, ensuring that students are challenged and supported according to their individual needs.

  • Instructional Delivery

    Instructional delivery across all grade levels reflects sound educational practice and emphasizes active student engagement. Annual funds are allocated for teacher training and professional development to support continued growth and instructional excellence. Teachers are encouraged to provide input regarding resource purchases to ensure materials align with program goals and student needs. A variety of instructional methods and assessment techniques are used to meet diverse learning needs, and these practices are incorporated into the teacher observation and evaluation process. In addition, annual achievement testing across grade levels further informs instructional planning and educational practice.

  • Elementary Program

    The elementary program is intentionally designed to build strong academic and spiritual foundations. Students are taught to read proficiently, write clearly and effectively, and think critically across all subject areas. Instruction emphasizes phonics, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, structured writing skills, and foundational math fluency. Teachers provide guided practice, small group instruction, and individualized support to ensure students master essential skills before progressing. At the same time, biblical truth is consistently integrated into daily lessons, helping students understand how God’s Word shapes their thinking, choices, and relationships. Special attention is given to nurturing a personal relationship with God and cultivating Christlike character traits such as honesty, responsibility, kindness, and perseverance.

  • Middle School Program

    Middle school courses are designed to prepare students for the increased expectations of high school. While many courses provide a broad survey of subject matter, they are delivered with age-appropriate rigor that challenges students to grow academically and personally. Students are expected to read with understanding, communicate their learning clearly in writing, engage in thoughtful discussion, and ask meaningful questions. Teachers gradually increase expectations for independence, organization, and critical thinking, helping students develop the habits necessary for future academic success.

  • High School Program

    High school courses are structured to prepare students for college and future careers, with intentional emphasis on developing a biblical worldview. Students are challenged to analyze ideas, evaluate arguments, and articulate their beliefs thoughtfully and respectfully. Dual credit courses are offered through West Virginia State University and are taught by our qualified TVCS instructors, allowing students to earn college credit while in high school. High school students also have opportunities to complete online college courses, giving them a valuable head start on their postsecondary education. They also have the opportunity to participate in the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and ASVAB.
