Hands-On Learning STEM at Teays Valley

The TVCS STEM program is designed to help students discover the gifts God has given them while building confidence through hands-on learning. As students move through each grade level, they will have opportunities to grow in creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork while learning how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can be used to honor God and serve others.

STEM & Robotics Program

List of 4 items.

  • Grades K–2

Students in grades K–2 will use pre-built robots to learn the fundamentals of coding through fun, interactive activities. They will explore concepts such as sequencing, forces, debugging, and storytelling while building confidence and learning that mistakes are simply opportunities to learn and grow.
  • Grades 3-5

In grades 3–5, students will begin focusing on the engineering side of robotics. Using the engineering design process, they will design, build, test, and improve their creations while learning about sequencing, simple machines, sensors, and other engineering concepts. These activities encourage creativity, perseverance, and collaboration as students work together to solve problems.
  • Grades 6-8

Middle school students (grades 6–8) will take on more advanced engineering challenges that connect classroom learning to real-world situations. Through design challenges, teamwork, and friendly classroom competitions, students will strengthen their communication skills, think critically, and learn the value of working together to accomplish a common goal.
  • Grades 9-12

At the high school level, students will have the opportunity to enroll in an aerial drone elective. Using pre-built drones, they will learn virtual flight, controller-based flight, and coding for autonomous flight while exploring the many career opportunities available in this growing field. Students may also choose to compete in statewide aerial drone competitions, giving them the opportunity to apply what they've learned in a fun and challenging environment.
Our goal is to create a learning environment where students are excited to explore, are not afraid to try something new, and understand that God has uniquely gifted each of them. We want our students to leave our STEM program with the confidence to think creatively, solve problems, work well with others, and use their knowledge and talents to make a difference wherever God leads them.
